Leadership Essentials is an excellent leadership fundamentals programme, providing timeless and universal leadership strategies. Whether for a new leader or very experienced, the focus on self-leadership before leading others ensures the takeaways are very tailored to the individual. With an equal emphasis on courageous assertiveness and leading teams to achieve business outcomes, it's an incredibly well-rounded leadership programme which I would recommend to all.

LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS TEACHES leaders, including emerging leaders, to:

•       Understand the role of leader in achieving organisational goals

•       Navigate and understand their organisation and its priorities

•       Develop a credible leadership identity and presence

•       Build the trust needed to lead well

•       Engage with, connect and include others

•       Collaborate to problem solve, innovate and continually add value

•       Seek and give feedback so that performance continually strengthens and potential is achieved

•       Adapt and utilise a range of leadership styles

THE LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS PROGRAM develops a range of fundamental emotional intelligence (EQ) skills that all leaders need in order to lead effectively.

The program covers key learning  including:

SELF-AWARENESS – participants build awareness of their leadership strengths and development needs and the way their leadership is viewed by others.  They become aware of the changes they need to make in order to lead effectively.

SELF LEADERSHIP – participants explore the need for leaders to be positive and resilient (Optimism spreads and provides hope. Resilience ensures leaders can stand steady in the face of challenges.); appropriately transparent (Openness and comfort with vulnerability builds trust so others open too and effective two way communication is established.); courageous (To lead bravely through difficult times, speak up when something is wrong, have difficult conversations with team members and others.); innovative (Curious about what could be and able to create a team culture where continual improvement and adding value to the organisation is actively on the agenda.)

CONNECTING WITH & LEADING OTHERS – being able to understand and appreciate other people’s circumstances is fundamental to creating followers and bringing people along with your leadership.  Participants learn to empathise and create psychological safety so they connect with others, their mindsets and needs.  It’s this connect that underpins leading for high performance.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & A RESULTS FOCUS – participants apply empathy to building relationships with a range of key stakeholders in their teams and from across the organisation, all with the aim of meaningful empathic conversations that deliver on business plans and priorities.

ASSERTIVENESS – Organisations need leaders who are able to: speak up, engender a sense of hope and optimism and focus people’s attention on organisational priorities; create trusting, inclusive and productive work environments; take on challenges and new thinking.  This final topic puts all the learning from the program into practice.  Participants tell their story of their hopes and vision for their team and identify workplace situations where they need to be more assertive. They also plan to put assertiveness into action.

THE WORKSHOPS:

  • Define and explore the relevance to leadership of each of the EQ competencies listed above, positioning them as the enablers of great leadership and successfully leading change

  • Provide exercises and activities to allow participants to discuss and apply EQ competencies to their leadership roles

  • Introduce a range of leadership styles and explore their impact on organisational climate, engagement, results and creating collaborative, productive team environments - so leaders adapt and wisely choose the leadership style most suited to the challenge at hand

  • Facilitate self-discovery and help participants determine the leadership pathway that works best for them and their organisation – authentic (with skill) leadership aligned to organisational needs

EMBEDDING OUTCOMES – To ensure learning outcomes are supported past the program we:

  • Provide Pre-work – includes: finding examples of leaders who inspire and reflection exercises that encourage participants to consider their leadership

  • Provide a range of extension materials that enable leaders to dive more deeply into areas of particular interest or need

  • Ask participants to develop a Leadership Development Plan on a Page.  Participants can seek feedback on their plan from Personal Best (At no extra charge.)

  • Support the development of an online leadership community via Personal Best’s Leadership Essentials Facebook Site.  Participants have ongoing access to this leadership community to share leadership insights, ask questions and continue to network with past and present alumni

CUSTOMISED PROGRAMS – Leadership Essentials can also be aligned to individual organisations and run in-house, enabling participants to explore leadership with peers in their organisation’s context.  Please contact Personal Best to discuss your requirements.  E: info@personalbesthr.com  M: +61 402 097 102
